Government to Roll Out P2,000 Cash Aid to 7.5 Million Families

The national government is set to begin the dynamic distribution of the P2,000 cash assistance under the expanded Unified Package for Livelihood, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT) program on Tuesday. The initiative aims to cushion more than 7.5 million low-income households—approximately 37.5 million Filipinos—against rising commodity prices driven by global oil supply disruptions.

According to Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian, the financial intervention comes as a critical buffer during an energy emergency sparked by lingering tensions in the Middle East.

Breakdown of Beneficiaries

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), alongside collaborating agencies, structured the financial support across three targeted sectors:

4Ps and Walang Gutom Program Beneficiaries (3.5 Million Households): Will receive a one-time cash grant of P2,000.

Poor and Near-Poor Families (2.5 Million Households): Identified via the 2024 Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS), this group will receive a monthly stipend of P2,000 from July to December.

Low-Income SSS Members (1.5 Million Households): Verified working-class families will similarly receive P2,000 monthly for six months, totaling P12,000 by year-end.

To ensure transparent and swift dispersion, the DSWD will employ a mix of digital and physical payout methods:

• For established 4Ps beneficiaries, funds will be directly credited to their existing Land Bank of the Philippines or GCash accounts. Conversely, families under the food stamp program will receive manual payouts alongside their scheduled food redemption cycles.

• Because the CBMS-identified block represents a new cluster of recipients, the DSWD will initiate manual face-to-face payouts on Tuesday before transitioning them into secure digital payment systems.
