Overtime Pay Guidelines for Teachers Released - DepEd

In a move to provide fair compensation for educators, the Department of Education (DepEd) has released new guidelines for the payment of teachers' overtime services.

The announcement was made in celebration of National Teachers’ Month 2025, with Education Secretary Sonny Angara stating that the policy is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to prioritize teachers' welfare.

The guidelines, issued on September 6, 2025, aim to provide clear procedures for all DepEd offices, schools, and personnel to properly implement and administer overtime services and corresponding payments for public school teachers.

Angara reiterated the Marcos administration's commitment to supporting teachers, recalling the President's instruction to "take care of our teachers, they are the heart of our educational system."

He highlighted several initiatives already in place, including a 57% reduction in the number of school forms required of teachers to allow them to focus more on classroom instruction.

The DepEd is also working towards hiring one administrative officer for each of the 40,000 public schools by the end of 2026 to help with administrative tasks.

Additionally, the DepEd has allocated P114.39 billion for personnel services in the FY 2026 National Expenditure Program to ensure timely payment of salaries and benefits. The department has also fast-tracked the processing of a P7,000 medical allowance, giving teachers the option of receiving direct cash assistance or an agency-issued HMO package.
