Typhoon Inday (#IndayPH, international name: BAVI) has slightly weakened as it continues its northwestward trajectory over the Philippine Sea, the state weather bureau DOST-PAGASA reported in its 11:00 AM bulletin on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
Despite the slight drop in intensity, large portions of Northern Luzon remain under tropical cyclone wind signals, and the storm continues to enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), threatening most of the country with strong, erratic gusts.
Current Location and Intensity
As of 10:00 AM today, the eye of Typhoon Inday was estimated at 865 kilometers East of Northern Luzon (18.4°N, 129.8°E).
Maximum Sustained Winds: 165 km/h near the center
Gustiness: Up to 205 km/h
Central Pressure: 945 hPa
Movement: Northwestward at 15 km/h
Wind Extent: Strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 870 km from the center.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals In Effect
PAGASA has hoisted the following warning signals as the massive storm system approaches:
TCWS No. 2 (Minor to Moderate Threat to Life and Property)
Luzon: Batanes
Expected Conditions: Gale-force winds ranging from 62 to 88 km/h within the next 24 hours.
TCWS No. 1 (Minimal to Minor Threat to Life and Property)
Luzon: Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands), Isabela, northeastern portion of Quirino (Maddela), Apayao, northern portion of Abra, Kalinga, eastern portion of Mountain Province, eastern portion of Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, northern portion of Aurora, and the northern and central portions of Catanduanes.
Expected Conditions: Strong winds ranging from 39 to 61 km/h within the next 36 hours.
Enhanced Monsoon to Bring Country-Wide Gusts
Weather forecasters warned that the combined effects of Typhoon Inday’s wide periphery and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon will bring strong to gale-force gusts to most of the country today through Saturday, July 11. Coastal, upland, and mountainous regions are highly vulnerable to these sudden severe winds.
Precautionary Advisory: Coastal and mountainous communities outside the direct track are still urged to prepare, as heavy rainfall and severe winds can stretch far beyond the storm's forecast confidence cone.
Maritime Travel Paralyzed by Dangerous Seas
A Gale Warning has been officially declared over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon, alongside the eastern seaboard of the Visayas.
Mariners are facing extreme risks, with wave heights projected as follows:
- Up to 6.0 meters (Very Rough): Seaboard of Batanes, northern and eastern seaboards of the Babuyan Islands, and the northeastern seaboard of mainland Cagayan.
- Up to 4.5–5.0 meters: Remaining seaboards of Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Camarines Norte, Polillo Islands, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and parts of Samar.
PAGASA has strictly advised that sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels. Large commercial ships and small motorbancas alike are ordered to remain in port or seek immediate safe shelter.
Local disaster risk reduction and management offices have advised residents in high-risk, flood-prone, and landslide-susceptible zones to monitor local updates and strictly comply with any evacuation orders issued by local officials.
