Metro Manila Workers Gets ₱85 Daily Minimum Wage Hike, Making It to ₱780

Over 1.1 million minimum wage earners in the National Capital Region (NCR) are set for a financial boost following the approval of a "historic" ₱85 increase to their daily take-home pay, the government announced Tuesday.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Francis Tolentino broke the news directly to local market vendors and construction workers during a Pulong Talakayan forum in Malabon City. He noted that the newly approved Wage Order No. NCR-27 marks the largest single daily minimum wage adjustment ever enacted in Metro Manila’s history.

"Following the directive of our dear President Marcos, we are raising the wages of all workers here in Metro Manila," Tolentino said. "About 1.1 million daily wage earners will benefit from this historic ₱85 increase. This is the highest per-day increase for the private sector."

Implementation in Two Tranches

To help businesses manage the transition, the ₱85 adjustment will be rolled out in two separate phases:

  • First Tranche (₱60): Effective starting July 19, 2026
  • Second Tranche (₱25): Effective starting January 20, 2027

Balancing Worker Relief and Business Sustainability

Tolentino expressed gratitude to the employer sector for supporting the adjustment despite lengthier consultations. He emphasized that the increase is a critical move to restore the purchasing power eroded by inflation and global economic challenges.

The labor chief also issued a firm reminder to employers across the metropolitan area to strictly comply with the mandate once it takes effect.

Reactions to the announcement have been largely positive but cautious. Bishop Broderick Pabillo of the Prelature of Taytay, Palawan, lauded the government's intervention while speaking to Catholic media outlet Radyo Veritas.

"People really need a wage increase during this time of hardship, so I hope it will help the people," Bishop Pabillo said. "But I also hope it won't make it difficult for those who pay them."
