Makati City to Host 51st Metro Manila Film Festival

Makati City is set to take center stage as the official host of the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) this year, signaling a strategic move to bolster the city's identity as a vibrant hub for arts and culture alongside its renown as a business district.

Makati City Mayor Nancy Binay officially announced the city's acceptance of the hosting duties, expressing her full support for the annual celebration of Philippine cinema. The decision came after a formal request from Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman and MMFF Chairman Romando Artes.

This significant development coincides with the much-anticipated announcement of the first four official film entries, signaling a new era for Philippine cinema following last year's successful golden jubilee.

Mayor Binay further solidified Makati's commitment by accepting Chairman Artes' invitation to join the prestigious 2025 MMFF Executive Committee, which plays a pivotal role in overseeing the festival's activities and setting its overall direction.

"We are glad to be the host this year. Hosting the MMFF brings us closer to our vision," Mayor Binay stated during the festival’s official launch held at the Glorietta Activity Center. She emphasized Makati’s broader aspiration to be recognized not merely as a premier business hub, but also as a thriving center for arts and culture.

In her address, Mayor Binay extended an invitation to the public to actively participate and show their support for the festival. She encouraged everyone to witness the much-anticipated MMFF Parade, which will traverse Makati's streets this December, and to flock to cinemas to watch the diverse lineup of local films. "Rest assured that we will support all the movies to be screened,” she added.

The Metro Manila Film Festival is a cornerstone event dedicated to promoting and supporting the local film industry. Beyond showcasing Filipino talent, the festival also generates significant proceeds that benefit crucial industry organizations, including the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation Inc. (MOWELFUND), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), and other groups vital to the growth and sustainability of Philippine cinema.
