Cashless Payments Now Available at MRT-3 Gates for Faster Commutes

Commuters on Metro Manila's bustling MRT-3 can now enjoy a significantly more convenient and efficient journey, as the Department of Transportation (DOTr) officially launched its cashless payment system today. This major upgrade allows passengers to simply tap their debit or credit cards or utilize their e-wallets at the gates, streamlining entry and exit procedures.

DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon spearheaded the unveiling at the MRT-3 Ayala Station, personally demonstrating the ease of the new payment methods. He emphasized that this modern system comes at no extra cost to commuters. "There is no additional fare here. The system is, whatever is deducted from your GCash, your credit card, your debit card, it is the same as if you bought a single journey ticket," Secretary Dizon stated.

The DOTr also announced ambitious plans to extend these cashless options to the LRT-1 and LRT-2 lines in the near future, in collaboration with GCash and RCBC.

This initiative is expected to dramatically reduce queuing times and enhance the overall efficiency of the MRT-3, providing a more seamless experience for daily commuters.

The DOTr confirmed a wide array of participating banks and e-wallets supporting the MRT-3's new cashless payment method, offering broad flexibility for passengers:
