COMELEC Adjusts Voter Registration Dates: New Schedule Announced

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has officially announced a significant rescheduling of the upcoming voter registration period, urging prospective voters to take note of the new dates.

Originally set for July 1-11, 2025, the registration period has now been moved to begin in the last week of October 2025 and will run until July 2026.

COMELEC Chairman George Erwin Garcia confirmed the change, explaining that the decision was made to allow for a longer and more inclusive registration period. The initial 10-day window in July was deemed insufficient, especially with considerations for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) and the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections in October.

"Surely, this voter registration from July 1 to 11 will not push through," Garcia stated, adding that the new schedule from the last week of October until July 10, 2026, is a "final" decision. This extended period aims to accommodate an expected one million new registrants.

Voter registration is a crucial process that allows eligible Filipino citizens to participate in local and national elections. This rescheduling provides a more extended window for individuals who will be at least 18 years of age by election day to register, reactivate, or transfer their voter records.

Citizens who wish to cast their votes in future elections, including the 2025 BSKE (if not postponed) and the 2028 National and Local Elections, are strongly advised to mark their calendars for the new registration period. Further details on specific registration centers and requirements will be released by COMELEC closer to the new start date.
