NNIC to Tow Abandoned Cars at NAIA; Offers Final Chance for Owners to Reclaim Vehicles

The New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) has announced plans to tow and impound cars that have been abandoned at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). According to NNIC, around 20 vehicles have been left unclaimed at the airport, with some dating back to as early as 2014.

NNIC is giving vehicle owners one final opportunity to retrieve their cars by waiving all applicable fees. To reclaim their vehicles, owners must provide proof of ownership and valid identification.

“These abandoned vehicles are occupying space that could be used by passengers,” NNIC said in a statement. “They also pose security and safety risks due to their deteriorating condition.”

Since taking over management of NAIA last month, NNIC has implemented several measures to improve the passenger experience. Among these changes is a hike in parking fees, particularly for overnight parking, which has helped free up parking spots and alleviate congestion around the terminals. However, some groups have expressed concern that the increased parking fees negatively impact airport and airline employees who often require overnight parking.

In addition, NNIC is preparing to temporarily close Terminal 4 next month to undergo a "major" renovation.

Meanwhile, airlines have submitted requests to regulators for fare increases in response to upcoming hikes in landing and take-off fees at NAIA.

If owners do not reclaim their vehicles, NNIC will tow and impound them at a government facility.
