DOTr Inspects Hybrid Electric Train at PNR Calamba Station


On Thursday, Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista visited the Philippine National Railway (PNR) Calamba Station in Laguna to inspect the hybrid electric train developed by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).



This state-of-the-art train is a product of the DOST-Metals Industry Research and Development Center and represents a significant advancement in the country's transportation technology.

The Hybrid Electric Train (HET) began its test runs in 2019 and is designed to accommodate up to 220 passengers.



It features a dual-powered system that utilizes both diesel and lithium batteries, resulting in reduced carbon emissions and a more environmentally friendly mode of transportation.


The HET can achieve speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour, making it a competitive option for daily commuters.
