UdM Granted Fiscal Autonomy

Universidad de Manila President Malou Tiquia has announced that the educational institution has finally been granted fiscal autonomy after 25 years.


This after the Manila City Council passed Ordinance No. 8635 which amends the original charter of the UdM.

Ordinance No. 8635 mandates that "UdM shall be treated as an independent and institutional department of the City of Manila wherein the management of fiscal, human resources, and all other assets shall be within its control."

Tiquia thanked the members of the City Council for the passage of the ordinance.

"We are thankful to Councilor Priscilla Marie Abante-Barquia for sponsoring the measure. Our gratitude also goes to Majority Floor Leader, Councilor Joel R. Chua for shepherding the measure on the floor and President Pro-Tempore Councilor Ernesto C. Isip, Jr. for the crafting of the language during the floor debates," Tiquia said.

Granting of fiscal autonomy to UdM was one of the commitments made by Mayor Francisco 'Isko Moreno' Domagoso during the start of his administration. -JKG
