Sky Cable, TV Plus operation stopped

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) on Tuesday issued a cease and desist order on Sky Cable Corporation’s Direct Broadcast Satellite Service and TV Plus.

The order was released a day after lawmakers in the House of Representatives questioned the NTC for allowing ABS-CBN to air its shows through Sky Cable and TV Plus channels despite its expired franchise.

According to the order released on 30 June, Republic Act (RA) 7969 or the law which gave Sky Cable franchise for 25 years has already expired last 4 May.

NTC has asked Sky Cable to explain within 10 days why the frequencies assigned to it should not be recalled for lack of congressional franchise.

The commission has also directed Sky Cable to refund to all its subscriber the unconsumed prepaid loads, deposits or subscriber equipment and devices, deposit or advance payment in monthly charges for postpaid subscribers, as well as new charges collected from new applicants for the Direct Broadcast Satellite Service.

The order was signed by NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba, Deputy Commissioner Edgardo Cabarios and Deputy Commissioner Delilah Deles.
