MDRRMO distributes free riding helmets and reflective stripes for bikers

The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) on Thursday, July 9, together with the Batch 8 Brotherhood and Lions Club of the Philippines distributed high-visibility reflective stripes and riding helmets to the biking community in Lawton.

MDRRMO Director Arnel Angeles led the distribution himself, emphasizing the importance of biking amidst the pandemic.

"Biking has been an integral part of my fitness regimen right before I went headfirst into public service," he said.

"When the pandemic hit and public transport was debilitated to a standstill, the only practical solution to get around was with a bicycle," he added.

He also shared his experience on how frontliners, like himself, travel their way in and out of city. Likewise, he also thanked the organizations that helped MDRRMO provide aid to the bikers.

"There were nights that I would go home from City Hall seeing frontliners in scrubs pedalling their way home. Being in their shoes, I empathize with the need for better biker awareness in the streets of Manila," Director Angeles said.

"That is why I thank our friends in the Batch 8 Brotherhood and the Lions Club who have generously allocated some of their resources to this cause which I hold close to my heart," he gratefully said.

Moreover, Director Angeles also shared that the city government is keen on developing safer streets for bikers and for every Manileño.

"We hope that in our little way, we are able to make a positive impact on our biking community to let them know that we care for them and the City is doing its best to make our street safer for everyone," he said.
