According to the Russian Embassy in the Philippines, starting October 1, Filipinos may apply for an e-visa to the two Russian regions for free.

"Any other documents that confirm the purpose of your visit to Russia are not required," Natalia Linovitskaya, press secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation.

Interested visitors only need to fill out an application form on the Embassy's website.

An e-visa is issued within 4 calendar days, including bank holidays and weekends.

Should they be granted an e-visa, visitors may stay in these two Russian regions for 8 days.

"Saint-Petersburg is absolutely beautiful. It is like a mecca of historical and cultural and architectural landmarks," Linovitskaya said.

The embassy, however, clarified that entry and exit by means of rail transport is currently unavailable.

Tourists who wish to avail of the e-visa must enter Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad through air, naval, automobile and pedestrian checkpoints.

Aside from the Philippines, the Russian government is also offering the free e-visa to 52 other countries, including Singapore, China, Taiwan and North Korea.
