How Can You Apply For The DSWD Educational Assistance Program?

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is among the bodies of the Philippine government tasked to care for the welfare of Filipinos. Other than this, they also hold different opportunities like scholarships and job offers to those who want to be involved with them.

In this article, we will be guiding everyone who is interested in applying for the DSWD educational assistance program. In fact, there is an ongoing call done by the DSWD—so here are the things you need to know if you qualify the program and also how you can apply for it.

The DSWD educational assistance program is a financial aid for the education of certain people of eligibility. Back in March of 2018, they made the clarification that they are not offering a scholarship; they’re offering a type of educational assistance for indigent students and other qualified students.

Emmanuel A. Leyco, DSWD Officer-in-Charge, said that the DSWD is not required or obliged to provide scholarships. However, the least they could offer is minimal financial aid for the education of indigent students.

Who can apply for DSWD’s educational assistance program?

The announcement from the DSWD states that the people qualified to avail the DSWD educational assistance program are:

• Working students
• Vocational students
• Technical students
• Students from State Colleges and Universities (SUCs)
• Relocation or displacement-struck families; and
• Overseas Filipinos (OFs) deported back in the Philippines

These people are qualified to apply and register for the DSWD educational assistance program. Of course, telling the DSWD of their situation won’t seem fit—they would have to present requirements for the department to validate and authorize their application.

What requirements are needed?

As per the DSWD, these are what interested applicants need to bring:

• Applicant’s valid ID together with the enrollment or assessment form; Certificate of Registration or Enrollment;
• Valid School ID
• If college level: the Statement of Account (SoA)
• The applicant needs to obtain a Certificate of Indigency or Residency from the barangay that the applicant belongs to.

Documentary requirements:

Other than those, here are other documents interested applicants need to submit to be able to apply for the DSWD educational assistance program:

• Original and photocopy of the valid ID of the applying student and the parent;
• Photocopy of:
• Enrollment Form
• Registration Form
• Compile all of the documents in an A4 folder;
• Submit it to the DSWD Central Office.

Important notes to remember:

All photocopied documents must have a mark which says that they are the Certified True Copy. Also, when you submit all of your documents, show the original copies of them to the assigned worker and make sure you get an assigned number or a serial number.

Which students can apply?

In their announcement, they said that elementary or grade school students, high school students, and college level students can apply for the DSWD educational assistance program.

The deadline of the elementary students for the DSWD educational assistance program was on the 22nd of June 2019; high school level was on the 29th of June 2019; and college level was on the 14th of September 2019.

How much would interested applicants get?

To all parents and students who are inquiring about how much they’re going to get, elementary students will receive P1,500.00; P2,000.00 for high school students; and last but definitely not the least college students will receive P3,000.00.
