Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, together with City Agriculture Office officer-in-charge Emelita Solis, led the vegetable harvest at Dr. Artemio Natividad Elementary School’s (DANES) Urban Farm on Sunday afternoon, August 26.

Mayor Lani showcased the lush vegetation and the city government's use of plastic bottles, driftwood, and other recycled waste materials which were converted into planting mediums.

Among the harvested vegetables were green leaf lettuce, red leaf lettuce, mustard, pechay, kangkong, okra, eggplant, camote tops, ampalaya, Malabar spinach (alugbati), saluyot, and malunggay.

Mayor Lani also noted that the city’s urban gardening program favors organic farming where pesticides, genetically modified organisms, antibiotics, and growth hormones are not used on crops. She noted that organically grown products are better for the environment and for a person’s health.

The Taguig Urban Farm also includes herbal plants such as insulin which helps lower blood glucose levels, oregano for cough treatment, and gotu kola which can be used for improving memory and blood circulation.
