The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has officially authorized the corporate name change of SeaBank Philippines Inc. (A Rural Bank) to Maribank Philippines Inc. The approval was signed by BSP Deputy Governor Lyn Javier on April 21, 2025.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) subsequently cleared the bank's amended Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws on July 31, 2025, reflecting the new name. This change integrates the bank into the MariBank Singapore Private Limited banking group.
From Banco Laguna to MariBank
The bank's history dates back to 1965 when it was founded as Banco Laguna Inc. It initially focused on providing essential financial services to local communities in the Calabarzon region.
In 2020, it rebranded to SeaBank Philippines and transitioned to a more technology-driven approach while continuing to serve its rural clientele. As of the end of 2024, it operates four branches in Laguna and an extension office in Mandaluyong.
BSP Revokes License of RGC Employees Savings and Loan Association
In a separate action, the BSP's Monetary Board revoked the license of the RGC Employees Savings and Loan Association Inc. to operate as a non-stock savings and loan association (NSSLA).
The resolution, dated June 5, 2025, was made in accordance with Section 22 of the Revised Non-Stock Savings and Loan Association Act of 1997. This action means the association is no longer authorized to conduct operations as an NSSLA.
