What is SEMME: The Southeast Metro Manila Expressway (Routes and Segments)

Here's all you need to know about the Southeast Metro Manila Expressway (SEMME).

What is SEMME?

The Southeast Metro Manila Expressway (SEMME), also known as Skyway Stage 4 or C6 Expressway, is an ambitious infrastructure project currently under construction in the Philippines. This tolled expressway, spanning approximately 32.664 kilometers, is set to traverse eastern Metro Manila and western Rizal.

Its primary objective is to alleviate congestion on existing road networks within Metro Manila, notably EDSA and Circumferential Road 5 (C-5). The project forms part of the broader C-6 Expressway initiative, aiming to enhance transportation connectivity and efficiency in the region.

The SEMME will originate at the Skyway near FTI (now Arca South) in Taguig City and culminate at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City. Additionally, it will integrate with the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) in Balagtas, Bulacan, facilitating smoother inter-regional travel. The groundbreaking ceremony for this significant infrastructure venture took place on January 8, 2018, marking the commencement of construction activities.

This expressway will serve as a pivotal component of Expressway 2 (E2) within the Philippine expressway network. As such, it is expected to enhance mobility and accessibility across the Greater Manila Area and adjacent regions. Here's an overview of the key segments and intersections along the SEMME route:

Taguig Segment

  • Skyway - FTI: Southern terminus connecting to Skyway (AH 26 / E2), offering access to TITX, Makati, and Alabang.

  • C5/Diego Silang Intersection: Interchange with C-5 Road (N11), a major thoroughfare in Metro Manila.

  • C6-Taguig Segment: Linking to C-6 Expressway, facilitating smoother traffic flow within Taguig.

Rizal Province Segment

Passing through Taytay, intersecting with Ortigas Avenue Extension (N60), and eventually connecting to the Pasig River Expressway (PAREX).

Accessing Marcos Highway via a folded diamond interchange, providing a route to Sumulong Highway (N59).

San Mateo Segment

Passage through San Mateo, featuring the San Mateo Toll Plaza and Tumana Bridge with northbound exit and southbound entrance.

Quezon City Segment

Culminating at the Batasan Complex in Quezon City, traversing Batasan Road and serving as the expressway's northern terminus.

The completion of the Southeast Metro Manila Expressway is anticipated to streamline traffic flow, reduce travel times, and enhance overall transportation efficiency within the Greater Manila Area. As construction progresses, stakeholders eagerly await the realization of this critical infrastructure project, poised to transform the region's urban mobility landscape.
