Police Station in Taguig under investigation for possible violations in handling Norial's arrest

Taguig City Police chief Police Colonel Celso Rodriguez said on an interview on Sunday that he advised the police administration commander in Ususan to encourage Grab driver Florence Norial and Police Captain Ronald Saquilayan to settle the issue.

“Pero parehong mainit ang ulo ng dalawa. At siyempre sa amin sa kapulisan, wala kaming gagawin kundi tanggapin ang reklamo,” he added.

The two said they won't settle the dispute.

On Tuesday evening, Norial, 26, was arrested in Taguig City for allegedly hurting Saquilayan, which she said was an act of self-defense because the police officer pushed her during the altercation.

The personnel of Ususan Police Station will be under investigation for possible violations in handling Norial's arrest.

Rodriguez said a board of inquiry is being established to look into the response of Ususan police personnel.

“Meron kaming board of inquiry na binubuo upang tutukan nga ang kaso,” Rodriguez said.

“Tinitignan natin kung meron bang infraction na na-commit ang ating kapulisan dito. Hindi naman natin kinukunsinti ano ba ang pagkakamali ng ating kapulisan,” he added.

After their encounter in the driveway of a coffee shop, which went viral on social media, Saquilayan brought Norial to the Ususan Police Station.

In another footage, some personnel of the station could be seen also having an altercation with the driver and her company. One cop could be heard threatening to file more cases against them.

According to Rodriguez, the board of inquiry will review the videos and will have the concerned cops submit an affidavit about the incident.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Major General Debold Sinas on Thursday defended the arrest of Norial, saying she "threatened" and "bullied" Saquilayan who was out with his family.

In a separate Facebook post, however, Norial said she hit the cop as an act of self-defense.

"Kaya ano 'to eh, allegations kontra allegations," National Capital Region Police Office chief Police Major General Debold Sinas said on Thursday, adding it is up to Saquilayan to prove his claims against Norial.

According to Rodriguez, they are still waiting for the resolution of the prosecutor.

“Hindi pa nakakapag-bail si Mary Florence,” he added.
