The number of scholars for this school year was the highest number of scholarships for the city, Sotto said.
The program was renamed the Pasig City Scholarship Program, from the BCE Scholarship Program named after former mayor Bobby C. Eusebio.
In a Facebook live video of the signing of the city ordinance renaming the scholarship program, Sotto said the local government was changing the program's regulations.
Requiring scholars to attend government-related events to merit points will be removed from the program, Sotto said.
"Marami tayong ipapakilala na pagbabago doon sa mga regulations at patakaran na nirereklamo niyo na marami masyadong requirements sa mga attendance," he said.
(We will make many changes in the regulations and the policies you are complaining about which has too many requirements for attendance.)
A task force was also created to revisit the program's rules and regulations, Sotto said.
"For the first time, hindi na po nakapangalan sa politiko ang ating scholarship program," Sotto said, adding he was "excited" for the program to roll out.
Next year, around P400 million will be allotted for the program. The local government is targeting to create 16,000 scholars by the next school year.
