New Cebu airport terminal amazes Duterte



President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday was awestruck as he inaugurated the new P17.5-billion passenger terminal on Cebu island’s main airport which the government hopes to have as many as 12.5 million passengers annually.



Duterte said he was amazed as he toured the resort-themed Mactan-Cebu International Airport Terminal 2, which had as one of its designers world-renowned furniture maker Kenneth Cobonpue, a Cebuano.

The President said he would also like to have a brand new airport terminal in his hometown Davao City, where he served as mayor for over two decades.
“I was awed when I started to walk towards this place. Napaka-ganda ng airport ninyo. Inggit rin ako kasi matagal akong mayor sa Davao, 23 years. I suppose that I’d also like the Davaoeños to enjoy an airport as beautiful as what you have here,” Duterte said in his speech.
The President added that the new airport facilty is one of the finest in Asia and will “showcase the best of what the Philippines has to offer.”
GMR-Megawide, a Filipino-Indian consortium, built the 65,500-square-meter Terminal 2 It operates Terminal 1, which it also refurbished.

The expanded MCIA, the country's second largest air terminal, hosts 26 airlines that fly to 25 international and 30 domestic destinations, the consortium said in a statement.
Terminal 2 has 48 check-in counters and 7 passenger boarding bridges. It is also equipped with boarding pass scanners, self-check in kiosks and expandable check-in counters, the consortium said.
