Facing ‘Jurassic’ competition, ‘Sid & Aya’ rallies at box office with P132-M

On its social media channels, Viva Films announced that the Irene Villamor film made a total of P132 million after 13 days, or its second week, in cinemas nationwide.

Anne Curtis, the star of the film alongside Dingdong Dantes, credited "word of mouth" and rave reviews for romance-drama's rally at the box office, despite stiff competition.

The start of "Sid & Aya's" second week in theaters on June 6 was also the nationwide release of "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom," the highly anticipated sequel to the 2015 revival of the dinosaur movie franchise.

"Sid & Aya" is told from the perspective of Sid, a stockbroker who copes with his insomnia by hiring the mysterious Aya to spend time with him, leading to a complicated romance. But, as Curtis has time and again teased in promotional interviews, ultimately it is "not a love story."
