Local authorities have announced the suspension of classes in all levels, both public and private, in the Municipality of Enrile tomorrow, June 26, 2026 (Friday).
According to the municipal advisory, the suspension is a proactive measure in response to a scheduled scheduled power interruption by the local electric cooperative, which is set to run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Local officials emphasized that the day-long blackout would severely disrupt classroom operations and affect student comfort and safety.
Weather Watch: "Francisco" and "Gardo" Keep State Meteoritologists on Alert
While the suspension in Enrile is strictly due to utility maintenance, weather monitoring systems are actively tracking a double tropical threat within and just outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
State weather bureau PAGASA reported that the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), enhanced by the weather systems, continues to bring scattered rain showers across major parts of Luzon and Visayas.
As of 3:00 PM today, meteorologists highlighted two active systems:
- Severe Tropical Storm "FRANCISCO" (Mekkhala): The storm center was located 620 kilometers Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. Moving north-northeastward at 15 km/h, Francisco packs maximum sustained winds of 95 km/h near the center and gusts reaching up to 115 km/h.
- Tropical Storm "GARDO" (Higos): Positioned further away, Gardo was spotted 1,420 kilometers East of Extreme Northern Luzon. It is moving rapidly northwestward at 45 km/h, carrying sustained winds of 85 km/h and gusts of up to 105 km/h.
Disaster risk reduction offices in Northern Luzon advise residents to remain vigilant against localized flooding and landslides triggered by the monsoon rains, even as the local power interruption takes precedence in Enrile. School administrators are expected to coordinate with teachers for any necessary makeup classes or asynchronous modules to cover the missed Friday schedule.
