After years of delays, Caticlan Airport is finally set to receive a state-of-the-art passenger terminal, a development hailed by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon as a crucial boost for the Philippines' vibrant tourism industry and overall economy. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility, led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday, marks a significant milestone for a project that has been stalled since 2009.
During a press conference at Malacañang, Secretary Dizon emphasized the immediate benefits for travelers. "Finally, magagawa na ang bagong terminal despite all of the challenges over the past more than 10 years," he stated, highlighting the long-awaited progress.
Tourists arriving at Caticlan, the primary gateway to the world-renowned Boracay Island, can look forward to significantly enhanced check-in counters, advanced security screening, and improved boarding gates.

The ambitious project involves constructing a two-story terminal spanning 36,470 square meters. Once completed, it will feature six passenger boarding bridges and 36 check-in counters, drastically improving passenger flow and efficiency.
The new terminal is designed to handle up to 3,000 passengers simultaneously, with a projected annual capacity of 7 million passengers.
Secretary Dizon credited the swift advancement of the project to robust public-private partnerships, specifically citing the collaboration with San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Infrastructure and Megawide Construction Corporation.
The design-and-build contract for the terminal was awarded to Megawide Construction Corporation in 2024. The facility itself is owned and operated by Trans Aire Development Holdings Corp. (TADHC), a subsidiary of SMC Infrastructure.
