Thousands of netizen on social media were amazed on how Marikina City handled their evacuees after Tropical storm ‘Karding’ struck their place.
Yesterday, the Marikina river reached the critical level which prompted the City Government of Marikina to forcefully evacuate their citizen.
According to the Eastern Police district, there are already 4,829 families and 23,433 individuals in 26 evacuation centers.
But unlike the other places in the Philippines, Marikina City showed that they’re different during disastrous events.
In the photos circulating on the internet, it showed that Marikina City used modular tents as temporary shelters for their citizens.
Netizens also praised the LGU of Marikina because the facilities for the evacuees didn’t include any names of their politicians.
One family can sleep comfortably in this modular tents and it also gave them privacy.

Most Marikeños credited former MMDA Chairman and now Marikina City Representative Bayani Fernando and their Mayor Marcy Teodoro for the new facilities for their evacuees.
“I am proud of our Mayor Marcy and Congressmen Bayani Fernando and Romero Quimbo at kahit malaki ang tax na binabayaran namin sa Marikina, maayos ang kinapuntahan kitang kita mo naman ang itsurang evacuation center pano nila inorganize. Keep it up , good job.” Ritz Coronado said.

It seems that people of Marikina already learned from the past after they were devastated by Typhoon Ondoy in 2009.
Marikina itself recorded 78 deaths and millions of pesos worth of properties got destroyed.
However, despite the good facilities of Marikina for their citizens, the LGU of Marikina was still seeking for help, asking for boats for their rescue operations.
